About Lorraine
A warm, down-to-earth space.
You’re used to holding it all together: managing high-pressure demands, caring for everyone else, or moving through the fog of grief. I’m Lorraine Richardson, LCSW, and for 15 years I’ve offered adults a compassionate, down-to-earth space to quiet the internal pressure, process loss, and find their footing again.
I provide secure telehealth in NY, NJ, CT, DC, MD, and VA, blending mindfulness, CBT, and ACT with practical strategies you can use day to day. I didn’t grow up in an environment where mental health was openly talked about, so I understand how hard the first step can be. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental, and tailored to you.
I earned my Master of Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work in 2011. My training includes Emotionally Focused Therapy, continuing study in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and CBT training through the Beck Institute (in progress). I work with stressed professionals, caregivers, and people navigating grief and loss.

What therapy is like
A conversation with purpose.
There is no single right way to use therapy.
You may come in with a clear question, a feeling you cannot quite name, or the sense that the strategies which once worked are no longer enough. We will begin there.
Together, we will pay attention to what is happening beneath the surface while keeping an eye on what needs care in your day-to-day life. The pace is thoughtful; the work is active; your perspective remains central.
Clinical approach
Methods, chosen with care.
Approaches are selected to fit the person and the concern—not the other way around.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT looks at thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be shaping a difficult pattern. Together, we can notice what is getting in the way and practice more useful responses in daily life.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps make room for difficult thoughts and feelings rather than fighting with them. It brings attention to your values and to small, workable actions aligned with what matters to you.
Mindfulness-based approaches
Mindfulness-based practices support awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily cues. They may be used gently and collaboratively to create more space before reacting.
Culturally responsive care
This work recognizes that identity, culture, family, community, and lived experience shape how stress, loss, and mental health are understood. Your perspective and context remain central.
